About the Role

On a contract, per-article basis, you will research, report on, and write articles for a general audience. Our feature articles are generally 750 to 2,000 words and are tied to sleep research and current events. You should have demonstrated experience interpreting data (especially from surveys), solid news judgment, knowledge of SEO best practices, and a knack for finding and interviewing excellent sources, from sleep researchers to average adults.

We're seeking writers who've put together features similar to what we've done before. Examples:

What You'll Do

• Research and write medium- and long-form feature articles
• Interpret and distill survey data to create a narrative flow for a general audience
• Interview subject-matter experts and weave in their commentary and insights for context
• Recruit and quote non-expert sources who can describe personal experiences related to your story
• Develop expertise in covering sleep health, medicine, and related topics
• Pitch compelling sleep-related story ideas
  
  

What We Are Looking For

• 1+ years of professional journalism writing and reporting experience, preferably on health and wellness-related topics
• Portfolio that includes at least 3 examples of content that show off your interview skills and ability to tell stories using data
• Knowledge of SEO best practices and executing them in content
• Ability to follow a style guide (we primarily use AP)
• Ability to meet given deadlines
  
  

Compensation

Compensation varies depending on article length, time commitment, and research requirements, starting at $750 per piece.
